What is Screencasting?

Today, I tried my hand at screencasting. Now if you’ve never heard of that, screencasting is where you record your voice and your mouse movements on the computer. Screencasting software is extremely useful for teaching other kinds of software or something online. You can describe everything that you’re doing on the screen and the audience can see everything as you do the work.

I used Screencast-o-matic because I’ve heard that it’s easy to work with and it’s free. I was very surprised how easily it downloaded and the simplicity of the features. Within five minutes , I was using it. With my headset as the mic, the final product was clear. It did chop off a few seconds of my video but that was negligible. If I were doing it for a class, I would’ve recorded it again. The pro features are only $1.50 extra per month! Going forward, I will try out other screencasting software as well as the pro features of Screencast-o-matic but this is the best for a basic screencaster.
